Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD is a hands-on method of faith formation based on the Montessori method of learning. It began in  Rome in the 1950's through a collaboration between Sophia Cavelletti, a Hebrew scripture scholar, and Gianna Gobbi, a Montessori educator. They spent their lives developing materials that feed the spiritual development needs of children ages 3-12. Catechists began using Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in the United States in the 1970's. Use of the program continues to grow, and today it is used in many dioceses across the United States, in 37 countries, and by several religious orders.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), Level 1 Program (children ages 3 to 5, including Kindergarten-ready children) will begin on Sunday, September 25 at 9:00 am.. Attendance on this day is for 3 year olds and 4 year olds who are new to the program, i.e., did not attend in the previous year as a 3 year old. All other children, past year participants and 5 year olds new to the program, should plan to begin attending classes on Sunday, October 2.
